The Different Parts of Interphase
The three parts to interphase include G1, S, and G2. These abbreviations stand for Gap 1, Synthesis, and Gap 2.
G1
During the first gap phase the cell synthesizes proteins needed for cell division and the cell also grows in size.
S
During the synthesis phase of interphase the cell replicates its DNA which is found in the cells chromosomes. This duplication results in identical cells.
G2
During the second gap phase the cell ensures that everything has been replicated correctly. Also, the cell produces any last proteins that might be needed for the cells division.
